Let's assume that EOS will have a built platform in the next 2 quarters of 2018. Steem has multiple finished products to set them apart from the competition. Don't forget the community aspect.
I agree the community is everything and blockchain is nothing without the community. It's mostly open source at the end of the day and easily replicated.
