The Revenant: journeys and Journeys

in #fiction8 years ago (edited)

Snow. So much snow. I have never seen so much snow in my life. It was like the world had been buried by ice for its sins.... Btw, do you like my new hat? Mummy bought it for me and it was the first time I had a chance to wear it, cute eh? Where was I? yes... so much snow, humankind's punishment for the pain it has inflicted onto nature through the thousands of years. We have tortured it, now it is seeking revenge and it aims to freeze our souls and shatter them like glass on the sharpened rocks of our destiny.

We walked and walked, hand in hand. There were times I could go no further and if it wasn't for mummy counting to three and saying 'Kipi, kipi, kipi' to make me run, I do not think I would have made it as far as I did. At so many points I just stopped and stared into the blankness of the world, feet like stones, a sense of hopelessness in my heart. So many times I looked to the skies and asked for a bear or wolf to come and steal me from this misery and leave my cold body to become carrion for the spring birds.

Eventually, I could go no further, my legs could not push on through Satan's cold sheets that blanketed the earth. My mind was numb yet we had so far left to go before we arrived at the corner of our building and the safety and warmth that lay therein. So far and my legs were gone from beneath me and refused to go on. If it wasn't for her, I would never have made it that last 100 metres to tell this story, I would have been lost.

She pulled and pulled through the snow, the herculean effort it took to pull the sled.. It matches my outfit!! Daddy <3 ... over the treacherous terrain was enormous. I can only imagine that it was only due to a mother's duty to never leave her child that she had the power to pull for the few minutes it took to get us to our destination. There are journeys and then there are Journeys, this walk around the block definitely fell into the latter and I am grateful to have survived to recount the tale.

Your hat is lovely! My son has a hat that looks like yours, except dark blue. :)

So cute! The hat is adorable. At your age I’m sure every trip around the block feels like an epic journey of discovery! I can also tell you, your momma will never leave you behind, pulling you around the block or up a mountain, she’s got it covered!!!

Nice momma you have there, pulling your sled while you enjoy the snow 😉

Have you read (or gotten your parents to readto you) The Longest Journey in the World? I can't recall the author off the top of my head, it's about the epic adventures of a little caterpillar on a massive journey that it goes on.

I understand your pain, I hate the cold. You have an adorable outfit with matching sled :)

I will suggest it :)

All kids all over the world love snow and by the way, your hat is great and very practical for a winter hike.

That hat tho! You've matched your outfit perfectly. Lovely. @smallsteps, you're so cute and lucky to have such a strong mommy to pull your sled through the snow. Thanks for sharing your post with us.
