Me and my monkey

You know when people buy inappropriate Christmas gifts for children? The ones that parents hate because they make crazy sounds without a volume button or are so large they do not fit anywhere in a small apartment? This is not one of those times. Here is my monkey. He is massive, and gorgeous.

I named him, Monkey because I think it suits him and whenever I walk into a room and he is sitting there waiting for me, do you you know what I say? 'Hey, Monkey' and give him a big smile. If one of the parents are around, I point to him and tell them it is Monkey also. I know they see him but I like to remind them that there is no space to hide him away somewhere so, there he is, Monkey.

Sometimes, for giggles, I prop him up in a seat somewhere and when daddy walks in and it is a bit dark, it scares him a little. Perhaps for a split second he thinks mummy has found a replacement daddy for me. Well, a monkey daddy is not so far from the gorilla one I have, perhaps he knows she has a type.

Here, Monkey is sitting with Viski and Baby. Viski is the dog baby is ummm, the baby. Viski enjoys getting 'his lean on' and chilling with Monkey and shooting the breeze.

Honestly, I don't really know what Monkey is going to do but I drag him from place to place so he doesn't feel left out of the games. That, and so the parents don't 'disappear' him somewhere, I will keep him close. I think they are actually growing quite fond of Monkey and I figure this is how you get a 'Monkey on your back'.

Having a Monkey around slowly grows on you until you are friends and you can't imagine being without it. And, like any good friend, it will be with you through thick and thin. Even if you would want to, it is hard to shake a good monkey off as they have good grip for swinging from trees and peeling bananas.

If you ever come and visit our place, you will be sure to meet Monkey because, he doesn't like to hide but does like to pretend he is the gorilla in the room. It is a kind of Mexican standoff between he and Dad. Is that culturally insensitive these days? I will ask @val.halla about it and let you know.
