Retinal detachment

Detachment of the retina is a formidable eye disease, which, without surgical treatment, often leads to a complete loss of vision.

The human eye can be compared simply with the camera device, the lens of which is a cornea with a lens, and the film is a retina, an extremely complex multilayer structure that is connected to the visual divisions of the brain with the help of nerve fibers. Therefore, we can assume that the retina is part of the brain.

Detachment of the retina most often catches the patient by surprise - before its appearance, a person can have excellent vision and can not present any complaints.

The detachment is the separation of rods and cones, we call them neuroepithelium, from the underlying pigment epithelium by the accumulation of fluid between them. In this case, the nutrition of the outer layers of the retina is disturbed, which leads to rapid loss of vision.

The possibility of detachment is due to the peculiarities of the structure of the retina.

Retinal detachment by its type can be:

• dystrophic (rhegmatogenous),
• traumatic,
• secondary.

Secondary is not considered an independent clinical form, but only a complication of the underlying eye disease - inflammation, tumor, vascular or congenital diseases.
