Stormy Reflections on the Virgin River
The still surface of the Virgin River reflects the illuminated clouds while streaks of sunlight shine down through breaks in the storm, while on the horizon the golden alpenglow hues are beginning to paint the distant cloud cover.
In this image I lensed while flying back to Boulder City Nevada, late in the afternoon dusk after shooting the wilderness areas of the Kaibab First Nations Reservation in Southern Utah.
In the foreground lays the Virgin River right above where it meets with the Colorado River to become Lake Mead.
The first set of mountains above the river are known as the Black Mountains, behind them on the left are a small range known as Lava Butte and the Rainbow Gardens.
And in the far distance on the horizon lay the Spring Mountains. Along the horizon on the left is Mount Potosi, in the middle is Red Rock and on the right is Mount Charleston.
This image is from my ongoing project in which I am trying to raise awareness of the 47% of the USA and 90% of Canada that remain unpopulated wilderness.
Where Eagles Fly - The American Wilderness Expedition is my personal mission to introduce people to these amazing locations that surround us.
