Night Falls Across the Colorado River

The Colorado River exits the Grand Canyon (on the left) and snakes its way into Lake Mead (on the right). I lensed this while returning from exploring and filming the Four Corners region, late in the afternoon, officially dusk. I had to compensate for low ambient light, which was reduced even further by the dense clouds above the area. 

In the distance Garnet Mountain rises above the horizon while the White Mountains are on the right. This is all part of the Mojave Desert. The Mojave Desert is bordered by the Great Basin Desert to its north and the Sonoran Desert to its south and east. The Mojave Desert is often referred to as the "high desert", in contrast to the "low desert", the Sonoran Desert to the south.

This is the traditional homelands of the First Nations Mojave Nation. The spelling Mojave originates from the Spanish language although the word is a shortened form of Hamakhaave, their endonym in their native language, which means 'beside the water'.
