Crazy Ancient Script Mural

in #art8 years ago (edited)

Hello today Steemians! I hope your day is going well, and the new year is treating you nicely. Already I feel a sort of lighter energy.

I have been staying in town at my moms for a little while, and today I went to paint with my neighbor Tim at Kelowna Escape Games and Virtual Reality. I got my camera charger finally so I now have photo-taking ability at all times, thank goodness!

I missed a couple weeks of painting so he is onto the next room. Last time I was there I was working on the shadows of the bricks in the Game of Thrones room using a dry brush technique he taught me, he finished the rest well I was away, what a lot of work! The finished product looks good, here is a shot of the finished product:

I also snagged a sneak-peak photo of the throne room in this escape-room-puzzle.

Basically the escape room is a new sorta fad around here where you have to solve a puzzle that is built into these rooms in order to "escape" (though you aren't actually locked in). I haven't played myself, but maybe in the future? They also offer virtual reality experiences here, which I will have to try soon before this job is over!

Today was a quiet day, my task sort of more complicated then the last, but still quite simple. Tim was working on what looks like a mad scientists lab next door to the room I was working in (though they are part of the same puzzle). He started on my room, this is an example of his work and I was trying to mimic it a bit.

The room I was in seems like a kids room but for someone who went crazy. My task was to write "creepy scripts" all over the walls, but with "good messages." Tim gave me a notebook full of random letters and words from all sorts of different languages, from cuneiform to Arabic to Nordic runes. It was super fun!

I am writing 'Love yourself' in ancient runes.

The star looking thing also means god, and that is what I wrote in cuneiform as well. Cuneiform is probably the oldest written language, originally made by pressing wedges into wet clay, and so consists of mostly lines and triangles. It was developed and used in ancient Mesopotamia. It was one of the highlights of today, it doesn't seem all that exciting but to a history obsessed person like myself it was really rad!

I also got to try some ancient Sanskrit, I am pretty sure this is just a bunch of random sounds so I sure hope that nobody knows what it means lol, as with many things in this room, its pretty damn random. It fits with the crazy theme though, if someone can read it, they will think that whoever wrote it is raving mad!

This one reads 'mind over matter' and then below that 'psychic powers' however I messed up spelling psychic and spelt it like physcic. Lol. It sorta feels like I can read it though! It is interesting to see how some of the letters are similar to the English alphabet, throughout many of the languages I wrote today!

The finished product! The spooky guy is Tims creation. I sure had a lot of fun with this project and task, if I go tomorrow I will probably get to make it look like splattered blood everywhere, which has to be pretty fun. I am learning a lot by just painting on walls haha, the experience and practice gives confidence! I am slowly gaining mural-creating skills!

Thanks for joining me today Steemit! I will finally have my next ancient history blog up soon on Babylonian Kingship, an intense subject, so stay tuned and have a lovely life <3 Peace for you all!

Sort:

Thank you for showing some ancient cuneiform. I always wonder why people changed their language voluntarily. Isn't it hard enough to learn a language? Anyway, I am glad that you are having fun. ;-)

It really was fascinating, I hope to get to actually make it legit with a wedge and clay. The history post I am working on has a lot to do with cuneiform too.

I guess once you have more then one language you have more then one language to express yourself in. I am just learning japanese right now though, and learning to speak is easier then learning to write I think haha. Thanks for stopping by!

Any real insights? DId you actually read it?

Nice work I love that writing we should go back to it, much more interesting the current letters!

Your narrative was fun to read and it will live on just like the people who dared to create language and art in the past. Painting on walls probably feels "transgressive" like you are breaking the rules of "polite" society. All the more reason to paint on more and more walls! It could be a form of partial immortality! :)

Haha it will live on probably until they paint it over and change the theme, but thus I have pictures. That is also why I want to try real cuneiform so that I can have clay tablets with writing on them for the future I guess haha. The archaic vibes really resonate with me, thats why I love history!
And yeah, grafiti is pretty transgressive. I like being able to do it at home too because I can paint whatever I want on my walls in my tinyhouse, murals everywhere!

I enjoy elaborate architecture or other complicated creations of humanity. The human (hive/interconnected, in many ways) mind is capable of creating things that are transcendent and in some ways, indescribable by any one human because its creation was made by many more variables than just one person. (even one person that makes something was influenced by small or large parts of past or current humanity, etc.) Basically, I'm saying that I like history and art also. hahaha :)

Yess we could talk all day about the wierd things that influence art and history. Art history is a wonderful way to look into the past, and often reveals much more then just written text.

Ahhh I love this! Interesting task to make - "creepy scripts" all over the walls, but with "good messages." - I am quite intrigued by this and love the photos. Particularly the one with the book/apple & the last one. I actually saved them. Looks like fun! I can vicariously live experiences I'd enjoy too through you without leaving the house :P You are so cool hehe

Haha he just didnt want anyone to be able to read it and get mad because I wrote something satanic or something lol. Kind creepy messages <3 We are symbiosis! Funny how much easier it is to connect thru the interwebs.

I am glad I got my camera back, I impress myself

Cool work.....I did not know much about any other language.... But did you find Sanskrit difficult to write.......we are taught in India Sanskrit up to high school it is sort of compulsory .....and I still remember it was very hard to learn and write. I still have many memories.

woah thats pretty cool that you get to learn that in school! It is always better to learn when it is a choice though, otherwise its just a waste of time if you dont want to learn.

It was probably one of the most fun to paint, though I only did a couple uh, what I think are words? Lol. It was challanging and I cant say I did it right, but I had fun doing it and it looks cool so that counts :P

I love it! I recognized cuneiform and runes and sanskrit, but couldn't read them. I also see some pictographs in there! Maybe some ogham (ancient Celtic alphabet) next time? 😃 What a fun job! You are doing #ophumanangels in ancient scripts!

haha indeed, positive secret messages in the room of a madman. I think I will be including more ancient scripts in my art for sure, it gives it an interesting feel. Id like to look into the ogham, I know I have read about it when researching the Tuatha de Danaan.

Did you read about the runes they found way up inside a mosque or something in Turkey, I think it was, that translated to, "This is very high"?
You are doing #ophumanangels in ancient script!

You are so beautiful my friend
