Do you think there should be any restrictions on flagging?

Since it seems we are in the midst of a ceasefire, I thought it might be a good time to discuss the communities opinions on flagging and flag wars in particular. Recently, the tactics have been catching innocent victims in the crossfire, not excluding new users and even an introduceyourself post. Is there any going too far? Do we feel these battles are healthy and an integral part of the blockchain? ****

  • I don't want any changes made or restrictions placed on flagging

  • I would like to see some reforms made using a review board or mods

  • I would like to see limitations placed on flagging percentages I.e. a whale destroying plankton is not ok

  • Only spam or plagiarism should be allowed to be flagged

  • Other

I don't want to see any encouragement either. For example mana pool for flagging, free flags or even rewards for flagging.

Where I don't like whats going on I like the fact there is an element of freedom on Steemit. I agreed something needs to be done. I don't know what and the current practice is damaging Steemit but the freedom of it is it's.

Maybe a solution would be to put some sort of consequence on a flagger, this would maybe encourage only genuine flagging not just at will ?! 💯🐒

Thanks for voting, the support, and your comment @vibeof100monkeys..

I too value freedom above all else, but we must ask at what cost? In no way was I surprised that this post didn't get much attention, and the majority don't see anything wrong with the current situation, sigh. What can be said except the waters are perilous here and people are as afraid of change as they are for speaking out about flagging injustice.

I just keep swimming about doing my observe and report thing in case new fish come along that desire some unbiased school that filters out the idealistic infantile network of early adoptees as they like to view themselves.

Keep on in their it will work itself out as more people come on board and kick up a fuss 💯🐒

The only one I think there should be is the ability to block anyone who is harassing you with it. If it’s personal and not about bettering the blockchain, then people should be able to protect themselves. Especially minnows.

Understand, I'm for protection in some form myself. My first thought is that harassment or the distinction between personal attacks and betterment might require a non-biased 3rd party or some sort of review board or moderating to make that judgement..Its a can of worms, but, I feel it must be addressed if we're ever looking for mass adoption to become a reality. Thx for your input @oh-high-mark

The problem with flagging as I see it it is that you can't ever call someone out on their bullshit without fearing that they're actually a hidden whale who will make sure you can't even make the $.04 we all hope for on our posts. ha.

It also influences people to kind of be civil, though, so it's not all bad.

I've never been the victim of a flagging war by someone with power, but I've also held my tongue quite a bit sometimes to protect myself.

This brings up a good point, and I almost included something to the effect of only active accounts should be allowed to flag or basically that bots shouldn't be allowed to flag. So, I left it to other. The holding your tongue is wise, but is also a form of ambiguous censorship in an abstract way. It's also two sided in that if one is helplessly the victim of an assault nobody will come to aid them if they can't match the flagging power. Thus, we see a degradation of any morality here. This to me makes discussions about many things irrelevant if we can't offer some protection to an account with under 100sp..

What's the problem with the current system? People getting flagged too much? I probably don't get enough flags to feel the problem!

It is being used as a tactic whereby someone posting something innocuous can get obliterated just because someone upvoted the harmless post that until then had nothing to do with the flag war. They then get obliterated by someone they’ve never had any contact with. So yes, I’d say this is excessive, abusive, and contributes nothing to the community except animosity. @crypto.talk everyone loves you lol, But, just imagine posting something that is clearly high quality and god forbid it gets resteemed or support from a warring faction and boom you go from 54 to -7 and now your business and investment is dead in the water. Not to mention new users are often the target as they’re defenseless and it’s costly to protect them. Plus, as it happens people are too afraid to do anything about it, which in no way is a community most humans with empathy want to participate in. So that’s the problem basically
