Food for thought

So today at work (i manage a carwash) i hired a teacher. He was modest enough to tell me that it was a summer job that he still teaches and on the application he put his salary

Now before i tell you what that figure was this is what i want everyone to ponder including any super intendants making 300000 plus a year.

These folks are charged with spending 8 hours a day 5 days a week with our kids. We trust them to set a good example and give them a good education. We expect them to respect our kids even though in the latter years when are kids arent very respectful of them. We charge them with the incredibly important task of teaching our kids responsibility social and academical skills. To have an education they can shape their futures around.

How much do you think they make a year? For something that important and something we pay hundreds of dollars a year for in supplies uniforms and tuition. Should be like 60 maybe 70 thousand i would see fit. Making 14.50 an hour in management i only take home maybe 30000 if im lucky.

5000 dollars is all a highschool teacher makes in odessa texas.

5000 dollars. Does that even sound right? When his neighbor is making that in less then two weeks throwing a chain around a pipe in the oil field? The guy whos teaching that guys kid math skills is making that much in a year.

Every year i hear about cuts to this cuts to that in the school district. You know where all the money is? The super intendants pocket. The si here in odessa school district makes over 300000 a year doin absolutely nothing for us or our kids. These teachers teach becuase they believe in the importance and if they didnt who would? I know i couldnt survive off that. They cant strike. Then yiur kids dont have any were to go and nothing to learn they couldnt do that to them. Theyve spoke up but no ones listening.

As a father im listening. This is damn fucking wrong. These teachers deserve more then that and they sure as hell deserve to be heard. I have great respect for them they do what nobody else will do and they do it with pride.

This article wont make a difference to them but they have made a difference to me. I hope someone with the power to do somethi g reads this and i hope that man or women has children of their own. We wonder why our kids are growing up in the "hoods" uneducated and pregnant. This is why all of their access to a good education has been taken from them. Doesnt matter how expensive the school is unless their teacjer is making 50k the stress alone from making ends meet will kill them under all that responsibility and selflessness.

They need to be heard and something needs to change.

The futures of our children depend on it
