Are you proud of your mouth?

Quite a number of people will feel embarrassed when they are asked that question. Some would beat their chest proudly to an affirmative yes. Some would probably look for ways to immediately improve their oral health. Still, some will pay little or no attention to the subject.

The word "oral health" might sound a little strange to most of us.

In clear terms, it refers to the state of health of your mouth, teeth, tongue and gums.

Sadly, so many people have neglected this important aspect of health, forgetting that this is very essential for overall well being.

Imagine you're very uncomfortable with the state of your mouth, and you're in public trying to speak with people. Now you're in a conversation and you realize your audience aren't so much interested in what you're saying, it's either they are tuned off, their hands always going to their nose, or they outrightly dismiss you. You'd be embarrassed very likely and wished you never even started the talk.

Or imagine another scenario, you're always having bleeding gums, you pay less or no attention to it, and you want to show affection to maybe your partner through a kiss. He or she feels quite reluctant to reciprocate or even outrightly tells you, don't you think that can be quite very embarrassing?

Here is another example, your perfectly white teeth are gradually turning into a chocolate color and damn, you're not doing anything about it. Some might have this tartar between their teeth and still pay less or no attention to it. You forget in a hurry that your teeth are also part of aesthetics and counts for you how neat and organized you are.

Frankly speaking, these are issues we shouldn't joke with.

Did you know:
Poor oral health can also contribute to other health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory infections. You're already wondering how possible. This is because the bacteria and inflammation in the mouth can spread throughout the body, affecting other organs and systems. Take your oral health very seriously.

Now the good news!!! It's world oral health day😁
You don't have to feel bad already if you fall victim to any of the above mentioned scenarios, maybe you've tried your best, you just need some little more effort and boom we get there!!!

This day is specifically chosen to remind the public of the significance of our oral health and the importance of not neglecting it. We also use this medium to remind ourselves of some good oral care tips in a bid to contribute to our society as health practitioners.

So let's skip to the good part🥰

Try out this oral care tips yourself:

  • Make it a habit to brush your teeth two times a day with fluoride toothpaste. Brush for at least two minutes each time, using circular motions and gentle pressure.

  • Floss daily to remove food particles and plaque from between your teeth and along the gumline.

  • Use mouthwash to kill bacteria and freshen breath.

  • Limit sugary and acidic foods and drinks, as they can erode tooth enamel and cause cavities.

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help wash away food particles and keep your mouth hydrated.

  • Visit your dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings. Your dentist can spot any oral health issues early and provide treatment before they become more serious.

  • Consider using a tongue scraper to remove bacteria and debris from your tongue, which can contribute to bad breath.

  • Chew sugar-free gum after meals to stimulate saliva production, which helps neutralize acid and prevent cavities.

  • Quit smoking and using other tobacco products, as they can stain teeth, cause bad breath, and increase the risk of oral cancer.

  • Consider using a mouthguard if you participate in sports or grind your teeth at night to protect your teeth from damage.

Happy world oral health day dear steemians🥰
