So, how can one become a witness @sirlunchthehost?
By setting up a node to witness the blockchain. Check the #witness channel in steemit.chat for advice.
Sweet! So can anyone be a witness by setting up a node, or must you still be chosen for doing specific things?
Anybody can be a witness, but the higher up you are on the list, the better you get paid, and running a node can be expensive. So getting into the Top 50 (the witnesses who sign the blocks) or the Top 19 (the witnesses who push the hardforks through) depends on how many votes you get.
Is there any way to work towards getting higher up the list? Like yeah, getting more votes, but I mean how can I intentionally do that, you know? :P
Do you have any tips?
Votu often helps witnesses who want the exposure by interviewing them on what they intend to do or accomplish as a witness. Other ways depend on your abilities. A lot of witnesses are developers so they develop apps for viewing the blockchain such as steedb.com and steemwhales.com and steem.supply and they earn their place by making those things for the community to use. Other ways are with community building such as steemspeak and beyondbitcoin and steemfest (currently the organiser is #1 witness). One other way is just by having a lot of steem power yourself, but if you're only there because of the size of your own vote then you should consider letting the community decide in my opinion.

Would writing very good content to help change the lives of others count as contributing? Because that is what I am striving for at the moment.. Not sure if that is what they are looking for in an influencer, but I do believe the power of words has a great impact.
Maybe. But that's the type of influence everybody is trying to have. Personality could be enough, but when voting most people think about who is actively taking care of community and who would make the right decisions on hard forks that benefit the community, not just themselves. So we judge by what people do whether they would make decisions that are good for everybody. They have to be trusted and not too selfish.

I love it! I might re-steem! I really think people should take Steem more seriously. People might end up in the same position early Bitcoin miners did years later when the realized they should have taken Bitcoin mining a lot more seriously when everything was newer and easier.

Great post ! Today i just lost my job...i worked really hard as a waiter for like 10 years in a restaurant...worked night after night shifts but still they decide they don't need my services anymore and that they don't have money to pay me so they just kick me out . It was really hard for me to find this job because i don't have much education....i did't go to college...
The real problem is that i have a debt of 759 $ to my apartment rent and if i don't pay till the end of the month they gonna kick me out from my own home. I don't have friends and my family won't lend me any money...
My only hope now to raise this money is steemit...i like it alot here and the community is very nice...
Please if anybody would like to help me , a upvote would be awesome and would help me tremendously to raise the money i need .

Try not to copy paste the same message everywhere. I upvoted you anyway because I believe you need the help. But you're looking for it the wrong way. Try to contribute to the community here rather than seeking pity. You will get better rewards that way.
