This is the award night for animation and Visual FX and I am not that recognisable because I am without my beanie, I wear a fake moustache and I have a different set of spectacles.

These are my students some past and some present. Some of them that have made the University and me proud. I teach not only the local students. Amongst my students are also people from various nationalities such as students from China, Mongolia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Brunei, Germany, France, Jordan and Malaysia.

Being an Educator

This is one of the best reward of being in my industry, the feeling that you helped groom these future generation of artist and industry leaders. There are a few out there that are making headlines and winning international awards who were previously my students and some of them still utilise the shortcuts and tricks that I taught them. What I remember most is throughout my years of teaching, I have come across many talents. Too many to be counted.

In fact talent is overly rated. There is no substitute for humility and hard work. The ones that I see climb the ladder in their respective fields are those that are exceptionally humble and hardworking. There are also students of mine that has dropped out from the field citing that it is no longer viable to earn a living in this very competitive field. While it is true, it is only half true. The field is competitive and constantly evolving, that is when a person resourcefulness in sourcing for other opportunities comes in handy.

One cannot always rest on their laurels and expect windfall. It doesn't work in the field of animation. Unless of course you are the producer's own flesh and blood.

This award was held in the University, the Creative Design Campus.

Pearls of Wisdom

I have been in this industry from the day I left University. To those that have been following my blog, you would know that I eat stale bread from the local shop that discarded them because I could not afford. Those who know me also would know I do caricature because it was my means of paying my rent and buying me my next meal. I am not feeling sorry for myself because if given a choice on how I choose to lead my life again, I would choose the same path. The road less travelled is usually the correct one.

It is true that the only short cut to success is that there is no shortcut. I consider myself successful because I have students who are more successful than me. To me success is relative and the most ignorant measure of success is monetary wealth. I am rich because at least I made an impact in the society that I am in. My next target is to make an impact in this Steemit Society and I try with each step.
