Five myths about July 4th
1. The declaration was signed on July 4th
Things haven’t happened that way.
It was actually signed on July 2nd. The Second Continental Congress voted the statement 2 days before the 4th, as evidenced by John Adams's letter to his wife, "I am apt to believe that [July 2, 1776] will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great Anniversary Festival. "
2. The Declaration of Independence Holds Secret Messages
There is a myth that there is an invisible message or map on the back of the declaration.
This is not true, but there is something written on the back, and it reads "" Original Declaration of Independence dated 4th July 1776. "
3. America has united in the war against England
When it comes to The Revolutionary War, at least 15-20% of all Americans have remained loyal to the crown and have been on her side.
Separately, not a small part of the population has decided not to engage in the conflict at all
4. The American Flag is sewn by Betsy Ross
There is no evidence that she has any role in the design and sewing of the American flag.
This story actually appears a century later and in the words of her grandson
5. At the moment of signing The Declaration of Independence began to beat The Liberty Bell
A story with the little blond boy standing next to the hall where the declaration was signed and giving an old man signal to the bell tower who gave the signal of independence, Is completely invented.
It is part of a story written in a children's book a century later by George Lippard.
And the bell gets its name "Liberty Bell" in the early 19th century after being used as a symbol in the antislavery movement.
As for the famous crack, it is supposed to be simply because of poor craftsmanship.
