Starve A Nose, Feed A Fever

Most people believe their sinus issues are due to factors beyond their control. People stay indoors to avoid outdoor allergens then while indoors they spend their days zipping up their mattresses and pillows and installing air filters. When it doesn't work they take drugs. Easy peasy, right? Wrong!

My favorite aspect of watching people self-diagnose the cause of their sinus problems is the excuses they make in an effort to keep eating three meals a day plus snacks. Do any of these sound familiar?

• I get a headache if I don't eat.

• I have no energy unless I eat something sweet.

• Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

• I am allergic to dairy so I drink soy milk.

• I am gluten intolerant so I eat gluten free bread.

I'm going to be blunt here. Empty your stomach and you will empty your nose. Fasting alleviates your body from the burden of digestion allowing it to perform the necessary restorative actions it needs to. A mucus filled blocked nose is your body's way of telling you to stop eating. Excess digestion of sugary starchy foods forces your body to create mucus. If you have it in your nose you have it everywhere and you are ignoring the sign. How long should you fast? Until you can breathe again!
