Recycling old PCs...

Sometime ago I started a pet project to recycle old PCs. The plan is to refurbish them and upgrade to Linux, as it requires fewer resources than Windows but does the same job. When I collect a big enough batch, say around 15, I will donate them to people in need.

The donation part is not a problem as I have spoken to friends who have connections with charities and those in need. The problem is finding people who are willing to donate their old PCs as most may wish to sell them or use them as trade-in for new PCs.

So far I have 6 PCs in hand, all but one has been refurbished with Linux installed. I can't find the wifi driver for the 6th one so have left it for the time being.

I have 7 in my PC stack here. The 7th one is for my friend. He was going to throw away his old PC. When I told him about my pet project he was interested to get more mileage out of his PC. I was more than happy to help him do this.

Electronic garbage is becoming a bigger issue nowadays and many people are buying new PCs unnecessarily. With a bit of determination and patience, we can all help to make this planet a better and cleaner place. We owe our future generations this, if nothing else.
