Software or OS migration

in #windows8 years ago

Many times we have old PC with old OS (and old MBR - master boot record).
Moving to Windows 10 (using GPT instead of MBR) and SSD is not a straight forward migration. At least thats what I found out.

I'm now testing a software by EaseUS (Although I had more experience with Paragon's range of products).

  1. Clone OS from HDD to SSD (which is connected via USB via a USB housing)...

I've only cloning one partition of 1 drive that is running Windows 10. The other disk was running 8.1 but is corruptable and unbootable. (Thanks to someone deleting some system files)
  1. After cloning, I'm planning to open up the laptop, take out the old SSD (that was housing the Windows 8.1)
and place in the SSD with the Windows 10. Hope it works...

Lastest findings : NO IT DIDNT WORK.

The clone just cloned the files exactly, since the D: drive where the OS is installed doesnt contain bootable information, cloning it to another drive and installing it as C: drive FAILED.

Probably have to learn the command "diskpart" and more about EFI boot sequence.
