It all depends... many people are Brand conscious... so an Apple, or Samsung comes to mind immediately.
China local brands are exploding very quickly.. the more internationally well known brands include Huawei, XiaoMi, One Plus, Oppo etc....
The less well know brands include weird names like Vivi, Vovo, Obx and a bunch other.. mostly OEM with a brand DiuXin etc.. The quality is improving.. but there are still many "scams" out there.. including outright lying about the specs - ie dual camera (but only one is real...)....
Some phones as low as US$100 to $150 for "decent" specs...
I think over time, low cost phones will reach a certain usability stage for mass adoption. Ie. if you dont play 3D games, and the phone is fast enough, thats all you need right? Unless some new applications appear that needs really super strong performance from CPU or AI processor.... especially when 5G networks becomes a reality.
I'm more budget concious, so if I were you, I'd look at Pocophone F1 (by Xiao Mi) and One Plus 6T phones right now. Huawei's Mate 20 pro is really nice, but it's price is also on the high side.
Thanks for the response! Yea I was really looking at Huawei and the reviews are amazing for cheap. Kinda like the equivalent of Hyundai back in the day. However, It doesn't work on Verizon since they're on a different network :( Unfortunately the network I'm on with Verizon (and I think Sprint too?) are limited to basically a monopoly on a Qualcomm chip. Might think about switching carriers too. Was potentially looking at the Google Pixel 3 and doing Google Fi.
