No? Well on the 24th of February it was Whatsapps 8th birthday which it seems also be by coincide that the Whatsapp Status update was also being launched.

The Whatsapp app reportedly is used by more than a billion people in over 180 countries around the world and most would probably agree that it is currently used first and primarily as an instant messenger type of service.
So with yet another new worldwide update many are saying its another blow to the future of Snapchat as the update will ultimately change how we all use the app.

So what is this update?
So Whatsapp tested this new feature back in November the developers are now happy with it and have rolled out the new tab on iOS, Android and on my Windows phone.
Well many say its a copycat that allows you to annotate with text and images in the same way as some other other popular apps.
If you look on the official Whatsapp website the CEO who is Jan Koum took time and traced the origins of this idea.

Yup you guessed it so in short this Whatsapp Status is another way of sharing your photos, videos and GIFs with your friends and yes it will disappear still in 24 hours.
Older users maybe will remember the first format which had a status.
No? Well this basically meant you could tell friends where you were.
So for example we could say your at school, at the cinema with your best friend or at the gym pumping etc, you could also let them know if your phone battery was about to die for me probably this being the most useful if I arranged a call.
Anyway if we go back to the CEO Jan Koum he explained that the original idea behind the project was to build an app that would let your friends and contacts know what you’re up to.
He said this was the idea many months before they even added and played with messaging, its roots I see.
Yup ok I see so how do we use it?
Well simply a new tab is available on your Whatsapp now.
The new tab will now allow you to take and upload photos and as expected you can then add the annotation before you send them to your friends, hmm feels familiar?

Oh yes and also you can watch your updates from friends, reply privately, shoot and also re-adorn their imagery with drawings and captions.
After that you may also then send them to other specific contacts.

Lol well for some luckily you are able to control who can see your updates in your Whatsapp privacy settings as I think other people can see enough of your life as it stands.
Yes but how is it different to other apps?
Lol well their answer is just like the rest of Whatsapp messenger service already which is basically the new Status function will also have encryption, so yes meaning apparently even greater and higher security than what other apps are offering.

Whatsapp is slow and unreliable. My ex is my ex because of all the messages I didn't receive (though her screen told her that I had seen, read, and not answered) them. She still sends me messages saying "The kids just left and will be at your house soon"
My children often arrive, grab a snack and are telling me about their weekend when her message arrives..
Whatsapp has been a disaster in my life and is anything but "Instant Messaging"
Wow thats an amazing story @sponge-bob I had also something similar except it was her not getting my messeges and it caused problems between us but now I feel if a woman was to act that way now I wouldn't bother with her. Thank you for your support.
It's a huge problem when someone thinks a text is the same as face to face. It's not women so much as any person's lack of understanding of technology.
It could be the server. It could be whatsapp. It could be one or the other Android device hibernating and not checking for new messages (not notifying me) until someone activates the screen.
Whatever the reason, an unanswered text is not the same as me turning my back on her and walking out the door...
When asked why we broke up, I tell my friends, "My phone was saving power until I picked it up, then she broke up with me!"
I know I have always preferred a face to face talk I often leave things to talk about till later so we could chat face to face. And yes this is not an attack on women gender as nothing to do with it as you say its a lack of understanding. Many weird things happen with technology I used to think my old computer had a mind of its own lol. Good answer @sponge-bob lol.
