--It should be clearly understood, that in all cases of disease, the advice of a skilled physician is of the first importance. It is not, therefore, intended by the following information to supercede the the important and necessary practice of the medical man; but rather, by exhibiting the treatment required, to show in what degree his aid is imperative. (That was meant for you sooks. 😂) In cases, however, where the disorder may be simple and transient, or in which remote residence, or other circumstances, may deny the privilege of medical attendance, the following particulars will be found of the utmost value.
•[As an aside: I should like any anti-plagiarism English Master, to rewrite this message in correct grammar to say it with the same concise and exact meaning in another manner.]
•{The purpose and rules of the grammar of English, are set in such a manner that what is said correctly, means nothing but that which it says.}
--Moreover, the hints given up on what should be AVOIDED will be of great service to the patient, since the psychological is no less important than the medical treatment to disease.

--Apoplexy,-
--Bleeding is not practised now. Lay patient in an easy position, with head and shoulders slightly raised. Undo all tight clothing. Promote warmth in the lower part of the body by the application of hot-water bottles to the abdomen and lower limbs. Give NO food or fluids while the patient is insensible. When consciousness returns a mild aperient may be given.

--Appendicitis is an inflammatory state of the vermiform appendix, a small tube having the shape of a worm (hence irs name) in the intestines. .... The disease may show itself either in a mild or an acute form. Generally the patient is seized with a sudden pain in the right side of or across the abdomen, the spot being tender on pressure. There is considerable increase of temperature, especially at night, and this may be accompanied with sickness, vomiting and constipation. In the severe form the belly is distended, the pain is excessively sharp, causing the legs to be drawn up, the temperature is as high as 104°F., and there may be symptoms of supportive peritonitis.
--In mild cases the patient (in bed) is treated with hot opiate poultices and decorations to the belly, and, if necessary to alleviate suffering, opium may be injected under the skin. Food must be liquid, hot, and administered in small quantities. The use of aperients is positively PROHIBITED, the bowels being relieved daily by large enemata of warm water and soap with olive oil.
--If the symptoms indicate marked pain from the beginning, the Doctor should be summoned at once, for operation affords the surest hope of recovery in the acute form of the complaint, and the sooner the Surgeon is enabled to operate the better, while the patient's strength is still good. There is a tendency to rapid collapse, when operation would be futile, or nearly so.
--Since many persons are liable to periodical attacks of appendicitis, the particular advantage of operation lies in the fact that by the removal of the appendix all risk of future trouble is for ever put an end to. In view of the gravity of the consequences and the difficulty of ascertaining at first from which form of the illness the patient is suffering, it is always prudent to SEEK THE DOCTOR'S ADVICE WITH AS LITTLE DELAY AS POSSIBLE.
--{avoid swallowing cherry stones, orange pips, or any hard pips and unmasticated solid food.}

--Asthma,-
--The following is recommended as a relief :- 2 oz of the best honey, and 1 oz of castor oil, mixed. A tea spn to be taken night and morning.

--Baldness,-
--It is first necessary to get the advice if a physician as to the cause of the baldness. A lotion containing cantharides is often useful.
--When caused by Ill-health or Age, rub onion frequently on the part requiring it. The stimulating powers of this vegetable are of service in restoring the tone of the skin, and assisting the capillary vessels in sending forth new hair; but it is not infallible. Should it succeed, however, the growth of these new hairs may be assisted by the oil of myrtle-berries, the repute of which, perhaps, is greater than its real efficacy. Even if they do no good, these applications are harmless.

--Bile, Bilious, or Liver Complaints,-
--Abstinence from malt liquor, cool homeopathic cocoa for drink, no tea or coffee, few vegetables, no broths or soups; lean juicy meat not over-cooked for dinner, with stale bread and occasionally a slice of toasted bacon for breakfast.

--Boils should be brought to a head by hot fomentations. Use boric wool. When perfectly ripe and ready to break, they may be discharged by a needle or the lancet. ~ Constitutional treatment : Quinine, port wine, and sea-bathing are desirable.

Its good post.

Thank-you @herzel. There are many who live on the fringes, in the mountains or forest, and the deserts, where Doctors are not readily available. Sometimes it is good to know when speed is imperative, or a little thought and home remedy might save you a rushed journey and major fees. 😇
