Servant Attitude – Matthew 20:25-28

Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave — 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

The leaders of the Gentiles want to rule and exercise authority. It seems in this world that everybody wants to rule the world or least as much as they can. Yet, that is truly not to be our desire. Our desires are to be focused on serving. That’s right. Serving.

So what’s your attitude in life? Do you have a servants attitude? Is it your goal to serve or to be served? Yeshua said whoever wants to become great must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.

Those words just go against everything we’ve been taught. Don’t they? But if that’s what we’ve been taught, then who’s been our teacher?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.

Authority in the Kingdom and authority today are exact opposites: The least of all the servants among us today will be great in the Kingdom, while the great today will be placed behind them in the World to Come. This is why it's always better to give than to receive, to serve than to be served.

I believe that is why the Kingdom is call a 'rest' for the righteous. Living a life of servitude and giving with no reward - is recompensated during the millennial Sabbath, when the treasures stored up in Heaven is given to the servants and those who received their payment in this world become debtors in the World to Come.

What a difficult teaching! We all desire to be comfortable and taken care of, but God desires us to give and to serve, and selflessly take care of others, even if it's uncomfortable. I can speak from experience that this can be difficult to do with the right attitude sometimes. The path is narrow indeed.

Indeed the path is narrow! But if we can make it to the end we can reap great rewards...not that we do what we do to get rewarded but that we do what we can because it is the right thing to do!

Amen! Spoken like a true servant. @ironshield
