Evil for Evil – Romans 12:17

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil.” If there is a verse that is hard to fight our flesh on, I have to think this is it. It seems to only be human nature to hurt those who hurt you. Right? If someone does something wrong to you, then it seems purely justified to hurt them back.

But we know that’s not the way of the believer. Though we do all we can to convince ourselves that getting even is OK, we know deep down inside it’s not. However, if we dwell on it long enough, we will deceive ourselves and will actually seek our self-justification at most any cost. Even though we know that two wrongs don’t make a right, for some reason, it just feels right.

Yet, there’s the problem. We aren’t supposed to live by our feelings. Whose example are we following in getting even with someone? Knowing that our example in life is Yeshua, do we ever read where He paid someone evil for evil?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.

howdy tonight @simms50! yes this is one of the big struggles, we want revenge! probably the hardest thing to let go and not try to get even. The Amish are a good example of living this one out. thank you sir!

Our flesh seems to want to fight against us!
Galatians 5:17 - For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

absolutely sir that's why we have to have a battle mentality or mindset or else we get kicked around by the devil or our own flesh!
