Police brutality - Thoughts and expiriences.
So, a lot have been written on the subject.
Here, in Israel, when facing a conversation about police brutality, I always say that whenever I get searched on by the cops (Common here, if you are a guy with long hair, you get searched on for drugs very often) they always treat me nicely, and never use violence on me.
BUT,
Police brutality isn't always physical violance.
By stopping me in the middle of the street for a search, they violate my rights in a bounch of ways, simply by nagging me only for the fact I am a guy with long hair (Typical stoner look).
Being a stoner, I know not to carry anything on me, but the frequent searches made me feel at fear when I walk outside in the streets, I am afraid when I see cops or police cars, instead of feeling safer like police should make us all feel.
Many of my friends tell me I should stand for my rights, but on the streets here, when you strart arguing with a cope you're mostly gonna end up being beat up and detained for 24 hours, the cop is going to say you were harassing them or trying to resist arrest, the judge will believe the cop, and you will be screwed much more seriously than if you'd just show them your pockets and let them search your pants.
I was raised on a certain set of values wherein the law is very important, cops are awesome people doing a sacred job and will always help me when I need, but instead, I just feel like they are bullies roaming the streets waiting to start a fight so they could beat up nice guys like me.
I know the situation in America is the same, and I don't know how, but we have to do something about it, police is supposed to be a body that serves the people, not bullying them.
