Playing with colored charcoals ^_^
I have to say that I love to sketch using the colored charcoals, but my favorites are the charcoal pencils because I have more "control" on the strokes when I'm drawing something. Today, my hubby @paolobeneforti gave me one of his treasure: a wooden box full of charcoals!
Paolo bought this box of charcoals many years ago in Paris, so they are not "just" a tool for work, but also a nice memory of a nice trip. ^_^
They are not in form of pencils and so I decided to try them sketching a simple face.
I noticed some differences between these charcoals in stick and my usual charcoals pencils (the Carb-othello by the Stabilo): the Carbhotello seems to be more "soft" and I can smudge the colors more easily than the stick, but with the stick I can have also a larger stroke (using them horizontally) to smudge and it's perfect for larger background. The white charcoal in stick is better than in pencils, the stroke is more "visible" when I use it to creat the points of light.
The Carbhotello have another 2 positive point: thanks the wooden shaft they are protected from breaking and I can forget them inside my bag getting it less dirty than forgetting charcoals in stick ^_^
At the end, I think I'll continue to use the Carbhotello mixed with these charcoeals in the box, but these charcoals from Paris are very fascinating, didn't it?
See ya soon

Looks like a nice vintage box with those charcoals...
Now that's a fun way to play. Effective too!
Many thanks, dear Old Dog ^_^
this made me want to dig up my box of charcoals! too bad i dont have any fixative at hand and my roomates just vacuumed the house :p
Charcoals from Paris; that's a nice gift!
Someone once told me that you have to heat the stick charcoals to make them blend. I don't know how that works, I've never tried it.
It's true, also my hubby said me to heat them, but I admit that I didn't try to do it (at now) :D
