Getting in touch with the past

in #art8 years ago

Sometimes I feel the need to get in touch with the past, with the very ancient time, so I like to exercise my hands painting something inspired by arcaic figures or ancient symbols. Fortunately my hubby has a collection of book about artworks of every times and every countries, so I can watch the pics inside those books and take  inspiration from them.

Yesterday I was watching an old book about archaeology and about different cave paintings around the word. In that book there were some interesting pics of the cave paintings in Lascaux (France) and I thought to take inspiration from them was a great exercise to improve my skills, so I did it! ^_^

The caves of Lascaux is known for the ancient wall paintings (about 600 paintings) and the most part of them are about animals (and you know I love animals and I love to paint animals ^_^). Some of them are really wonderful representation of fauna of that time and it's wonderful to think those "animal portrais" were painted  about 17,000 years ago!

I never visited the caves of Lascaux (I hope to do it in the future), but watching the pics on the book, I was very intrigued by a cave painting about a deer, but my attentin was focused not just on the deer, but also on the textures all around him, so I used my oil colors (in tubes and in pastels) to paint a similar deer n a sheet of paper:

Even if I have my own style in paintings, It's always useful to learn more and more about different syles, different tecniques, different materials. To learn or to experiment something new is one of the part that I really love during my work and the world is full of wonderful example of art to discover. An entire life is not enough to know everything and this thought make me think on how beautiful is to know something more every day.

Do you know the proverb "Curiousity kilsl the cat!"? Well, it's not always true. In the knowledge (in every fields) the "curiosity helps to grow up the cat" ^_^ For this reason, everytime I'm curious about something like a sign of the history or an artwork that I've never seen before or a character of a story that I've never heard before, in art fields or out of them, I feel the need to study  it, even if just for some hours or  some days.

My motto is: I don't know everything about anything, but I like to know anything about everything ^_^

Well, coming back to my "arcaic deer", I took some pics of the process too:

I hope you like it ^_^

See ya soon and steem on!

I love this and I love the inspiration. I happen to also adore deer and stag and I think I mentioned I collect deer items even antlers.

Maybe you should sign it with blowing paint around your hand, isn't that what the ancients used as signatures?

Yes, I remember you mentioned your collection and I think it's wonderful! I have just few pieces in form of deer, but I want to improve my collection :)
