2016 RAM Gold Lunar Monkey

Today I want to share some gold with everyone. I'm a fan of fractional gold pieces for a few different reasons. The first reason is that I feel there is more room for premium. Meaning when I go to sell my gold not only will there be more people who can afford the fractional pieces, but the collectible ones I like to pick up have a better spread than the larger pieces. For example, many of the collectible fractional gold pieces are in the $200 dollar and up range. Not many of the one once gold pieces are in the 2k range. Even if they were not many could afford them.

When I look at fractional gold pieces. Which do I prefer? I like to grab ones that are collectible and have a different design each year. Many times these coins are even cheaper than gold eagles and the like. The premiums on gold are much different than silver. The Perth Mint gold coins for example are usually cheaper than gold eagles and even maples much of the time. We all know this is not the case with silver. It makes a lot more sense to me to purchase these gold coins as they are cheaper, and actually have a chance to get you a premium down the road on the secondary market.

This gold coin I'm sharing today is the 2016 Royal Australian Mints (RAM) lunar Monkey. This is the first year that they released a 1/10th gold that was not a proof coin. So I started to collect them. Of course, The Perth Mint has their Lunar series which I also collect in 1/10th gold, but the designs on the RAM's coins are cool IMO. These are not only different in design, but they're different in diameter as well. Some specs on the coin. It is 1/10th ozt of .9999 fine gold with a diameter of 17.53mm and a denomination of $15. The reverse design is nice, but I also like the obverse with the Queen surrounded by the 12 different signs of the moon phases of the Chinese Zodiac.

Have a look, and let me know your thoughts on the RAM coins.
