Kennedy Half Dollar- A Gift
The Kennedy/JFK Half Dollar was created to commemorate President John F. Kennedy who was assassinated in 1963
First released in 1964, Kennedy half dollars were made from 90% silver and 10% copper.
The silver coins were hoarded upon their release in March 1964 by collectors and those interested in a memento of the late president. The coins carry the image of President John Kennedy were the last 90% half dollar coins minted.
Gilroy Roberts created the portrait of Kennedy on the obverse and Frank Gasparro sculpted the heraldic eagle on the reverse based upon the Great Seal of the United States.
The original 1964 version was minted in 90% silver, the 1965-1970 versions were 40% silver.
Silver from 1970 can only be found in silver proof sets and the US government never released them into actual circulation. The coins from 1971 and up are not silver but are a good looking coin nonetheless.
Kennedy half dollar coins dated 1965-1969 contain 40% silver and are known as 40% clad half dollars. The Mint’s removing silver from dimes and quarters, and reducing the silver content of half dollar coins to 40%, heightened the hoarding of all 90% silver coins but especially the 1964 Kennedy half dollars.

Year of my birth, and the last year for Silver 90%
coins... Dumba$$ LBJ ruined that for us. One of
the theories is that "TPTB" wanted Kennedy to
remove SILVER, but he was against that. In fact,
he had signed 2-3 EO's that would have STRENGTHENED
the US "SILVER STANDARD" moving forward. This was
all done about a month before he was killed. SILVER is the
Constitutional Monetary Standard, and then Gold is fixed
to SILVER. Most people do not know this... 💪💪👍💲💸💰
It is a great tribute to JFK that the last 90% half dollar is in commemoration of his presidency. They were meant to be circulating silver coins, but because they were hoarded so much, very few went into circulation.
You certainly know some details about this coin that not many know. Kudos!

Yes I have access to American coins here only they are more expensive here than in USA.

Happy Saturday, lovely @dfinney. No, I have not seen those devil-looking rounds! The JFK coins are so popular, and because 1964 -90% Kennedy halves were the last of the US Constitutional silver minted, I horde them too, just like the many other people. That is good news 💪. We all know that family and work come first before steemit. A new addition to your family 👨👩👧 can be quite challenging in a good way.
As I write this response, I am feeling much worse 🙁 than when I posted this article... arrrgh. I think I have the flu. I already take 1000mg Vitamin C every day. Chicken noodle soup sounds just perfect this very moment, and I think I have a can or two in the pantry. I will be thinking of you when I eat my soup 🙂.

I tried getting box's of half dollars at the bank, I looked through so many ....I think I found two to three 40% Kennedy half's out of hundreds🙄
Then I had to use them at stores, and gas stations, and one cashier at a local store didn't know if the coins were real of not!!!🤔
Then I tried to return them to other banks one bank completely refused to take them.....So much work @silversaver888 !!🙃
