Engelhard Gold?🤔

Engelhard is a clear favorite in the precious metals market. At one time they had several locations operating all over the world. They are commonly referred to as "the gold standard." With that being said, they manufactured a lot of gold..

Engelhard gold is highly sought after. That demand brings on a premium. Premiums tend to be lower on the pressed gold bar's. While being higher on the poured gold bar's.

I have not shared some of my concerns with too many people. I want to be clear that this article is only speculation. The gold ingots shown in the photos are not owned by me.

As of lately, I have been noticing some unique poured Engelhard gold bar's. I can say that I have been watching this market closely for the past 5 years. There are not too many bar's that I have not seen before. One thing is certain. Engelhard was VERY accurate with their weights. If you go through ALL of the poured silver bar's ever produced. You will notice that hardly ANY are odd weight. There were a TON of different varities produced. For example, the half kilogram ingots were stamped 16.075oz. Making them a perfect half kilo. One kilogram ingots were stamped 32.150oz. This is why they were the best at what they did.

There have been gold bar's surfacing that are off weight. A HUGE red flag in my eyes. Not only is the weight off. The pour style and landscape is not as precise as what we are used to seeing. Here is a group below that are the exact variation of the 3.215oz example photo shown above. Note: 3.215oz is equivalent to 100 grams. (Bar above)

☝️Engelhard poured gold has been seen with a lesser purity before. Typically on 5oz+ weight classes. These three sharing the same lower purity is a small cause for concern. BUT not as much as the odd weight. They are not equivalent to the intended 100g weight in troy ounces. It is no easy task to pour a perfect weight ingot. As mentioned before, the pour style on the three is not as finished looking. Nevermind the fact the color makes them look like they were poured yesterday. Yellowish gold vs darker aged gold.

I am curious to hear any thoughts on this subject. It would make sense for someone to counterfeit these ingots due to the associated significant collectible premiums. Any input here would be greatly appreciated.

EPIC Beauty bars from Engelhard! In my dreams!!!!

I think you have a right to be skeptical. Unfortunately, when there is money funneling into precious objects, be it PMs like gold and silver, or even just antique items there will always be counterfeiting of those very objects.

We see it everywhere... it's unfortunate, but being skeptical and educating yourself on them will guide you toward the real thing and away from the junk.

I'm no expert, but based on what you've shown and explained (never mind your expertise) I'd tend to agree that they're fakes.
