The 2017 3 oz Krugerrand Silver Coin and Bar - beautiful coin, amazing presentation case. 5,000 Mintage

I have been fortunate enough to get my hand on a couple of the new 2017 3 oz Krugerrand Silver Coin and Bars; and they are truly beautiful in terms of both the coin and the presentation box.

The South African Krugerrand, the original bullion coin and still one of the most traded, celebrates its 50th anniversary with the 3 oz Silver Coin and Bar with a mintage of 5,000. This superb set is comprised of a 1 oz Silver Krugerrand within a 2 oz Bar of fine .999 Silver. It’s the first time that a product of this type has been offered by the South African Mint and each 2017 3 oz Silver Krugerrand Coin and Bar is supplied in a wooden presentation box with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The presentation box is the best I have ever seen! As per the pictures below you can see that it comes in a quality black cardboard box, as per above. Then that leads you to the wooden case and its engraved lid; it is beautifully finished with a black velvet bottom to protect it and the item that you rest it on; as per the picture below.

Inside the case is the 1 oz coin inlaid within the 2 oz bar which are protected within the black velvet lined case.

The famous springbok design is sharper and more vibrant than ever and it is repeated in outstanding detail on the bar. All Krugerrands, including this beautiful minted 3 oz Silver Coin and Bar, honour two of South Africa’s most enduring symbols. The Obverse features former President, Paul Kruger, while the reverse shows the country’s national animal, the springbok antelope.

The Krugerrand was first issued in 1967 to increase the profile of South African Gold. The world’s first bullion coin enjoyed almost immediate success and by 1980 it accounted for over 80% of the world market. In 2017, the first ever Silver Krugerrand was released to mark 50 years of the coin that was the blueprint for all of today’s bullion coins. Now, the Mint has taken the concept to a new level with this limited edition 3 oz Krugerrand Silver Coin and Bar.

A closer look at the coin/bar itself shows off the quality. The new 2017 Silver Krugerrand Coin has been digitally enhanced using the latest laser technology.

My personal opinion is that these will be taking pride of place as they are stunning to look at and I have been fortunate enough to get a couple. If you have chance to look these in the so called flesh , then do so because these pictures don't do them justice.
