Something To Think About.....

in SteemLeo6 years ago (edited)

Afternoon everyone.....

Today I have gone a little out of my normal box of collecting/stacking. But I did it on a hunch and I’m going to research it some more and might plunge a little deeper if I think it’s a 100% guarantee.

Let me explain.....

As most of you know I was a high grade coin collector. Well I’ve been watching and thinking on something that I no longer collect..

What could this be ???

The Lincoln Cent

See many years back I had a bunch of very nice Lincoln Cent coins. Copper is very temperamental, even more then silver is. Over time some of my coins which in grading terms were “Bright Red”, started to turn brown. While this doesn’t affect their grade, it does affect the money you get selling them.

Believe it or not the number one collected coin in the world is the Lincoln Cent. Collectors go absolutely nuts and are extremely picky. The true high end collectors will only buy coins that are “Bright Red”, not brown.

You are probably saying....

Where the hell is he going with this ???

Since the US Mint went to just a copper coating the coins seem to be less temperamental. And I purchased a set I believe is going to be a long term winner.

That set of coins is the 2018W Lincoln Cent coins.. They produced a BU business strike which was sent out in circulation, a proof version which were only available in Mint sets. And a reverse proof which was only available in that special Mint set.

The mintage son these are extremely low for the population of Lincoln Cent collectors. So I’m taking a chance.

Here is what I bought....

This is a special Mint carded set of all three coins. I haven’t totally decided exactly how I’m going to continue on this, but I feel it’s a winner.

Do you intend to sent them to grading or you are simply keeping them and waiting for its value goes higher? Or are you going to buy more sets?

I’m probably going to buy all of them already graded. I’m thinking this could end up like the first West Point Eagle. I may buy more sets as well. Need to some more research.

I can understand why the Lincoln Penny is so popular, a lot of the kids that started filling in those blue Whitman folders are now collectors!😀

The stats that I referring to are on true collectors not children. But yes i think most people start on pennies. I actually started on dimes. My grandfather was a dime guy.

Okay so how many of these penny cards did you buy? 3000?

Just one for now. Still doing research and wanted to see them in person.

Hahaha... I have a few (not a collection) Lincoln cents too, bestie!!! I will show them in the future. It is good to have a good US coin collection... for me, it is for posterity, more than anything. I think that all US coins are good to have. Even the clad America the Beautiful circulating quarters.... I can't help but marvel how pretty they are. Have fun, bestie!
Take care 🥰🌺🤙 and a ton ogHugs🤗

Everything i do has a purpose. I don’t have room or time for anything that isn’t going to be in my collection or flipped. I’ve been in this game for a long time.🤗

Interesting.....I had no idea there was that kind of following. I'm going to see where this goes. Keep us posted!

Continue with the West Point series maybe? I was lucky enough to pop one of the quarters but I know it wouldn't fetch the same premium as an proof set.

This year is the nickel from West Point.

Believe it or not the ones that were put in circulation are worth more then the proofs.

For real? Why is that?

For real. Its hard to explain it but its a strange thing with coins.
