Remember
Afternoon everyone ….
We have two main holidays here in the United States to honor those of war. One is Veterans Day which is to honor all that have served. The other is Memorial Day. Which is to honor and remember the ones that have fallen fighting for our country.
Today is Memorial Day here and it’s a day that parades, and memorial services are typically done at a grave yard where memorials of the fallen are laid to rest. There are usually gun salutes involved, depending on where you live. My town happens to have a two hundred plus year old cemetery directly across the street from the town hall building. That’s where the parade ends, and they do a salute and twenty-one gun salute.
I have been to Washington DC, for a Memorial Day service and I can tell you that there is nothing like seeing that live in person. I have many family members that have served. Is a matter of fact, me and my brother are the first not to have served in the military in our family.
So in honor of Memorial Day, I am going to share a Patriot silver round. This round is produced by the Mason Mint. It comes in a shiny silver version, or a blackened version.
This round was given to me a few years back by a silvergoldstacker secret Santa gift. It’s the blackened version and it’s totally cool.
Here is some info on the round….
Obverse Design
The obverse features three characteristic patriots over the course of U.S. history with an American flag in the background. Pictured from left to right is an airman from World War I, a revolutionary from the Colonial Era, and a sailor in the Navy from World War II. A stylized eagle is placed above the inscription "PATRIOT."
Reverse Design
The reverse design depicts an American colonist riding horseback. The scene shows a church and a large ship in the backdrop. Classic revolutionary symbols such as a drum and cannons appear in the foreground. A pair of Colonial Era pistols divide the rim inscriptions "AMERICAN REVOLUTION" and the motto "DON'T TREAD ON ME."
Now for the round….
