Dairy Game: Salary Arrears: ASUU Threatens ‘No Pay, No Work’
INTRODUCTION
hello friends, beautiful morning isn’t it? I hope everyone is doing just fine. Today I will be telling you how the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to down tools after two weeks if the President Bola Tinubu administration fails to pay public university lecturers their withheld salaries.
ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke said it is unfair for the Federal Government to pay lecturers four months of their 2023 withheld salaries and hold on to that of three-and-half months.
a displeased Osodeke said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday. He argued that public universities in the country have so far covered the work for the period that they were on strike in 2022 and should be duly paid.
Life has changed so much for students because of the current academic situation. It’s so infuriating because being a Nigerian citizen, and that alone has halt many lives especially students Seeing other peers in state schools and private schools graduating early and fast watching them all move on with their lives.
Every university in Nigeria today are in the 2023/2024 academic year which means that by September/October, they will be in the 2024/2025 academic year. The implication of this is that all the work for which lecturers were not paid when the were on strike, have been covered by making sacrifices so the deserve payment from their government.
Students in public universities wants what private universities students have. They want to move on with their life. Why should they have to be an undergraduate student for more than 4 years?.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to go on strike if the government refuse to meet up to their needs which will affects the students terribly and also destroy the life plans mapped out by many students for their future.
