Will Marketers Destroy Steemit Like They Do Everything Else?

in #steemit10 years ago

Quick disclosure before I get into the meat and purpose of this post...

I am a Marketer.

I've made my living (and a good one at that) entirely over the past decade by marketing online. I started with Myspace, then Google, then Youtube, and these days I spend most of my time selling stuff on Facebook.

I honestly love Facebook's paid advertising platform and it's rewarded me handsomely for learning how to use it. I've done some crazy things with Facebook like sell over $300,000 worth of stupid t-shirts in little over a year.

And leads? If you want leads for your business I can't think of a better place to generate them than through Facebook or Youtube advertising it's about as good as it gets.

I'm not saying any of this to brag, in fact my results are nothing compared to some people's winnings but if it's money you want, that's easy and there are plenty of places to get it other than Steemit.

However, if it's social riches and personal recognition as well as feeling satisfaction for actually making a difference in someone else's life then this is the place to be.

Now to be honest with you I use my personal Facebook profile mainly for chatting and connecting with friends, posting stupid cat videos, and sharing the outrageous/bizarre thoughts that pop in my mind throughout the day. Mainly for the shock-factor I get out of seeing my uptight friends reactions.

"People spend too much time trying to be politically correct and not enough time just not giving a fuck. I'm here to balance that out :)"

Also I would also say that I fit into about 1% of the people that come in and try to game these social networks because I'm actually willing to put my money where my mouth is and pay for the results I'm looking for instead of screaming from the rooftop about my life changing product or service amongst my deadbeat friends.

And honestly, I have no plans to do that here, (in fact it's not even possible and we'll get to why that is in a bit...)

I never saw Reddit as a profitable place to do that either so I never touched it. I knew it was more than a platform for business but always saw it as a powerful knowledge base backed by a strong community.

And you know what people hate more than anything? Getting rejected...

So when you post something that does not have any inherent value inside of community that is built around the concept of value you're doomed to fail and you're gonna look stupid in front of a whole lot of people! (Marketers take note.)

However, I do plan on becoming a student of Steemit and learning exactly how it works so I can indeed find out how to leverage the potential of this platform, and let's be honest who's not using it for that reason?

Look, we all want more out of life. We all want to get ahead but the beauty of Steemit is that it doesn't have to happen at another's expense.

You see, the sad thing about most marketers is that they love to come in and ruin good things for their own measly gains. Instead of taking the time to dive-in and learn how they can win really win BIG.

Not just from a profits standpoint but also from a social standpoint, the way I've always seen it is people are worth far more than money because behind every individual lies some new piece of information or opportunity that can help drive us forward and help us get closer to our goals.

If You Want To Know The Real Secret of Success It's PEOPLE, Period.

How you treat them, the perception of you that you form in their mind through your own behavior and posture. What you represent and more importantly how and WHY you represent it.

And if you know a little about Reddit then you know A LOT about how Steemit's community does and will operate. Of course anytime you throw money in the equation it changes things, but given the native landscape of this platform it's actually going to encourage people to contribute in a way that the world has not quiet experienced yet.

And that's exciting.

The world's first VALUE based social network. Sure others have tried, but most of them have been based around the concept of dollars. There's an entirely different mindset around cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Steem, etc.

I think the main reason for that is that it's de-centralized, we don't have some evil old queen or banker determining the value of our money, for the first time in my lifetime we are in control of our financial future, not just as individuals but as a COLLECTIVE.

Which means we all have to ADAPT to this entirely new mindset which is inclusive and not exclusive.

I'm personally more than excited about it, I'm ecstatic about it!

How about you?

I am a marketer who's making a killing on fb too. We are the scurge of the earth...I hope we're not going to ruin it. ;-)

"So when you post something that does not have any inherent value inside of community that is built around the concept of value you're doomed to fail and you're gonna look stupid in front of a whole lot of people"... YES.

Love your attitude coming to the community, bro.

Brilliant quote: However, if [you want] social riches and personal recognition as well as feeling satisfaction for actually making a difference in someone else's life then [Steemit] is the place to be.

Great post. It will be interesting to see how marketers and advertisers try to use this platform.
