Langkawi is one of the districts and islands in the state of Kedah Darul Aman, Malaysia. Pulau Langkawi was given a duty-free status in 1987. Now, the island, which is rich in natural beauty and past legends, has presented itself as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malaysia. Langkawis is actually a group of islands where Pulau Langkawi is the largest.

The Archipelago is located in the western part of the state of Kedah and Perlis as well as in the northern part of the state of Penang, Peninsular Malaysia. [1] Langkawi Island in the waters of the Straits of Malacca, right next to the mouth of the Malacca Strait, the Andaman Sea to the northwest and the Indian Ocean to the West. Across the island of Langkawi there is Sumatra island in Indonesia and in the north is located Thailand.

Langkawi is like a pearl that was only discovered by the Malaysian government. There are 104 islands in the Langkawi island group, a formation of the continental drift that forms Southeast Asia. The highest point on Langkawi is the peak of Gunung Raya as high as 890 m above sea level.

From Kuala Lumpur, we can take a car through the North-South Expressway to get to the exit of the Gurun District, Kedah and head to Kuala Perlis. From Kuala Perlis jetty, the tariff is RM 15.00 for ferries to Langkawi Island. Famous paths that are always used by tourists are through the Kuala Kedah pier. The rate is RM 18.00. For Langkawi residents the tariff is RM 15.00.

There are lots of people here at sunset, especially volleyball players, so it may not be your idea of a romantic walk. Still there’s something very special about Cenang’s atmosphere at sunset. Leave your car at the parking lot next to Casa del Mar and turn right. Keep walking along the beach around Pelangi resort until you almost hit the end of the beach. Put down a blanket and watch the sun set.
