Why are cell phones so irritating?

Psychologists have decided to explain why constantly talking to their cell phones is so irritating. Yes, we all know it. But have we asked ourselves what are the reasons?

According to scientists, the main problem is that the background noise of cell phone calls in the public space unintentionally shifts the attention of others from their own activities. Study leader Lauren Emerson of Cornell University explained that the involuntary eavesdropping of foreign comments on the handset is devoid of the predictability of the conversation, involving two interlocutors. This is why mobile amateur monologues are so disruptive for the nervous system and the brain.

Mobile phones are one of the most risky factors in the public space, psychologists warn, who will publish their research in the forthcoming issue of Psychological Science. And this applies not only to drivers and passengers on airplanes but also to citizens in cafes, offices and even on the street. That's why scientists are advising to restrict our mobile conversations to places where we do not hinder others from doing their job peacefully.
