A Review: My visit to a Buddhist Temple in Wood Valley, Hawaii

I visited this Buddhist Temple in Wood Valley, Hawaii. It was in a remote location a few miles into the mountain valley on the slopes of “ Maunaloa” a Hawaiian word which means Long Mountain. This Temple is famous in Hawaii because out of all the large and ornate Buddhist Temples here the Dali Lama, the highest priest or religious leader in all Buddhism, choose to visit this one because it symbolized a value “Enough”.

The temple was not made of marble or precious stones like marble or granite, it was made of wood, not special nor valuable, but “enough”.

As I looked about the temple I noticed that every special fixture which could have been made of gold, silver or marble was made of simpler components.
But every thing was “Enough”.

The Temple:

The Traditional Stone Lions: which greet at the Temple Door. They were not Bronze or Copper or Marble.

The Temple Door was not carved from fine wood but simple pine.

The traditional Yang and Yang Symbol was a very simple stained glass window.

The Alter was simplicity itself, as if the message was more important then the messenger.

The prayer garden was simply grass, flowers and an alter.

From the front door to the back prayer garden the theme was clearly one of simplicity, peace and having enough.
