Have you ever wondered how it would sound like, when you turn the rings of tree-slices into music? I just came across an awesome installation, that answers this question.

Austrian artist Bartholomäus Traubeck has created a record player that translates the different colors and textures of tree rings into music.

Every tree sounds unique
Sensors gather information about the wood and turn them into piano notes.
A tree's year rings are analysed for their strength, thickness and rate of growth. This data serves as basis for a generative process that outputs piano music. It is mapped to a scale which is again defined by the overall appearance of the wood (ranging from dark to light and from strong texture to light texture).Source
Built with Playstation and Ableton Live
Traubeck’s one-of-a-kind record player uses a PlayStation Eye Camera and a stepper motor attached to its control arm. It relays the data to a computer with a program called Ableton Live. What you end up with is an incredible piano track [...].Source

I think as artists we need to be like trees just letting the melodies and visuals pass through us from the ethers.
Beautifully put straight. It's important to be a medium for universal messages. But I guess, it's also essential to add some personality here and there...
