My Favorite Writer Is Sufia Kamal

Sufia Kamal was a great writer and poet from the Barishal division. She was born is a Muslim family. She was a great writer and her contribution to Bengali literature will be always unforgettable. She is a great motivation for new generation. Ladies can take her as a role model as she is not only a writer but also a great leader.

In 1971 she has contribute a lot and as a political activist she played a great role. I really like her as a writer and also as a leader who leads so many people to the right path. Her writing is also inspiration for many and she is the asset of our country Bangladesh. She was the first woman in Bangladesh who burried in 1999 with a great honor and she deserves more honor as a great legend.

She was always beside the helpless girls or ladies in the society and support all those ladies who fights for their rights, this is why she also known as a feminist.

Amongst her all famous writings I would like to mention some name : Ekatturer Diary (Diary of '71), Mrittikar Ghran (The Fragrance of Earth), Benibinyas Samay To Ar Nei (No More Time for Braiding Your Hair), Ekale Amader Kal (In This Time, Our Time)and so on. She was a legend and pride of #Bangladesh.

We people are proud to have had a writer or poet and her writing still consider as such a great asset. Her contribution to Bengali literature is great and unforgettable.

Her literary career took off after her first poetry publication. Her first book of poems, Sanjher Maya (Evening Enchantment), came out in 1938, bearing a foreword from Kazi Nazrul Islam and attracting praise from critics like Rabindranath Tagore. In 1937 she published her first collection of short stories, Keyar Kanta (Thorns of the Keya Tree).Though she called herself a romantic poet, her work more and more reflected the struggles to preserve the Bengali language and culture and to fight Pakistani rulers. In 1947, when “Shaptahik Begum” was first published, Sufia Kamal became its first editor. In October of that year after the partition of India she came to Dhaka. During a huge clash between Hindu and Muslim of that time Kamal worked for their friendship and joined in Peace Committee. In 1948, when Purbo Pakistan Mohila Committee formed, she became its chairman. Kamal’s activism continued in 1952, with the Language Movement. In 1961, when the Pakistani government banned Rabindra Sangeet (Songs of Rabindranath), she became involved in the movement among Bengalis that ensued in 1961. During the mass uprising in 1969, which demanded the resignation of General Ayub Khan, she promoted the cause by forming Mohila Sangram Parishad (Women’s Struggle Group). She was involved in the 1971 Liberation War and all later movements against dictatorial regimes. Source
