How to Contribute to the Mozilla Project?

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

Mozilla project has been around for quite some time. And they don't need any introductions at all. Almost everyone who has access to the Internet, knows or have heard about it. The project has truly make great contributions in making a better Internet.

In fact, the mission statement of Mozilla says

We’re building a better Internet. Our mission is to ensure the Internet is a global public resource, Open and accessible to all. An Internet that truly puts people first, where individuals can shape their own experience and are empowered, safe and independent.

The mission of Mozilla is one of the moving factors why I chose to contribute to this project. So like any other open-source projects. There are a lot of ways to contribute. And they have a few products that needs help.

For Mozilla, please check this link and get to know more about the project. Once you have decided to contribute to Mozilla. You can visit this link and choose which area you want to focus on.

I worked as an IT Professional. But for the mean time, I like to get started working with Translations Works. Specifically I wanted to help translate SUMO articles to our local language. To get started just start with whatcanidoformozilla link and choose translation. The main goal here is to help localize Mozilla.

So far this the list of the available locales. If you speak multiple languages and don't see them listed here. This is a great opportunity for you contribute.

Sign up as a volunteer and then check the documentations. There are step by step procedures listed there on how to get started. Once you have all the necessary accounts. You then need to introduce yourself to the forums.

Mozilla has active contributors here and you should be able to receive replies in just a matter of time. After all the formalities, you will then be informed of the things that you need to learn to get started.

Mozilla has this very amazing tool to help make the translation work easier. They call it Pontoon. Check the image or click this link.

Next up, I will be discussing some basic guidelines of using Pontoon. I will also start working on the translation works and will document the process to give you an overview of how translation works is done at Mozilla.

If you still don't know which open-source project you want to contribute, come and join us at Mozilla. Check this link, and choose which field you want to work on.

Cheers,
happywondering

yay! that was the first.
Thank you espoem.

Your contribution cannot be approved yet. See the Utopian Rules.

Before the post can be accepted in Utopian, you need to work on the format of the post.

  • You write one sentence per line throughout the post. Please edit it so that the text is fluently connected and easy to read.
  • You also use a numbered list. It would look better if you used the usual markdown syntax without the parenthesis and left a space between the numbers and the following word.
  • Similarly, you quote a statement by Mozilla. You should use a blockquote for that matter. You have included informative images in the post but the text also needs the care.
  • The last suggestion is for the links. Perhaps you could use the [name](URL) syntax to include the links more into the text instead of using the raw links as you do now.

Please edit your contribution to reapply for approval. You may edit your post here, as shown below:
