Chennai: The Madras High Court has issued notices to Rajinikanth, his son-in-law Dhanush, director PA Ranjith and the South Indian film actors association over a copyright dispute over the title and story of the superstar’s next big flick ‘Kaala’.

In the film, Rajinikanth plays the role of a slumlord-turned-gangster fighting for oppressed Tamils in Mumbai. A PIL filed by an assistant director in the HC stated that the title and the story belonged to him. The court asked for a reply from them by February 12.

In his petition, Rajashekaran, proprietor of GSR Vinmeen Creations, said that he had come up with the plot of 'Kaala Karikaalan' a decade ago and he wanted Rajinikanth to play the lead in his film.
The petitioner had in October 2017 moved a Chennai court contending that the title 'Karikalan' was registered with the South Indian Chamber of Commerce.

This is when Dhanush's production company, Wunderbar films, submitted its reply that the story is written by Director Ranjith of Kabali fame. The court directed the petitioner to approach the High Court on this issue.

Rajinkanth has started dubbing for the movie and the director said the final cut of the film will be ready by March but the movie will be released only after 2.0. The director said the date of the release will be finalised only after 2.0 hits the screens.

The film also stars Huma Qureshi and Nana Patekar, who is returning to Tamil cinema after a decade. While Huma Qureshi plays a college student, Patekar will essay the role of a politician with negative shades.rajinikaala.jpg
