Does Trump really have a nuclear red button?
Trump tweeted today that he has a much bigger and more powerful nuclear button on his desk than North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. US surely has the most powerful nuclear missiles in the world, no doubt about that, but does Trump really have a button that can launch a missile that can potentially wipe out North Korea off the maps? Is it really that easy? Apparently, the answer is no!
I dug a bit more into the topic and turns out launching nuclear missile is a manual affair, which means a lot of humans are involved before a nuclear missile is actually airborne. What a relief! Though the process is a bit more complex than just pushing a button, what president Trump really has is a 45 pound aluminum briefcase which includes all the instructions required to launch that missile. Apart from that, he also carries something called biscuit, which is a card with all the verification codes.
So, what happens when the president orders to launch the missile? Well, the military launches the missile, no questions asked. He has the full authority to do so. He doesn’t require to get permission from Congress, the military, or anyone else first. In fact, the military is expected to carry out the lawful order and strike the other country with a deadly weapon that will be remembered by the victim’s great grandchildren as well.
From the time the president orders the missile launch to the actual launch can take as less as 5 minutes! That's how much power Donald Trump has now! So even though he doesn't have a red color button, a nuclear missile is just a phone call away
