A Day On The Farm - 3

Hey Steemites!

Hope your weekend is going as well as mine. I've been enjoying some gorgeous weather, awesome market sales and even some parenting lessons. Well not real parenting, can't compare myself to that but I am a bit of a farm mom. Quickly learning that the less involved I am the better. I think that humans have trouble with this concept. Animals naturally learn the basics a lot faster than we do but its incredible to see how much of it is pure nature and not at all taught.

Since our ducklings were hatched a few weeks ago I have daily hand scooped them from their sleeping bin and hand scooped them back in at night. Other than that they are quite independent and follow us around and have even mastered getting in and out of the pool on their own.

I love watching them discover new things like eating wasps out of the air and diving under water after being startled by a butterfly. Today they had to stay in their sleeping bin for part of the day while we were out. I wasn't sure I wanted to trust Trouble (our dog) with them. He is good with our chickens but I was not sure if he has figured out yet that these are our birds and not wild ones to chase.

To my surprise, when we got home all 6 ducklings were wandering the yard as per normal, without any assistance from me to escape their home. Amazed, I had to go check out their home and figure out how they would have accomplished this. I mean it wasn't rocket science, but they had flipped their food bin over so that they could hop up out of their crate and to the freedom of the yard. What can I say, nature knows best!
