Feels like spring already! Let's plant stuff!
Today was a gorgeous 60 degrees and sunny skies so we took a break from our kitchen remodel to get outside and do some work with the gardens. Luke and Sam worked at transplanting some of our raspberry plants (@randomstuff did a post on that today) while the little ones and I planted some cabbage using some of that beautiful compost we picked up the other day.
We planted 18 giant cabbages and 27 Brunswick cabbages. We ordered both kinds from Baker's Creek.
They will stay inside until it gets warm enough to transplant them outside, probably the end of February.
Is anyone else as excited about spring as we are?
I can't believe how big that cabbage is in the picture!
And it was warm here today, too, but the temperatures are about to drop again in the morning. Stays relatively cool for the next 10 days or so for us. So, I think we still have a little while before we can plant anything.
Cabbage can handle temps as low as 22F, I think that is correct! If we plant early few moths so less cabbage worms.
Hoping for a awesome growing season for y’all.
May you have a blessed growing season as well!
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe you are already planting! We still have a few months to go and I already can’t wait!
My seeds are on their way from baker creek. I got that exact cabbage. How did your saurkraut do?
Sauerkraut was great. We made enough last year for 2 years. These will be for slaw, fermented sauerkraut, and stir fry.
You should do a post on how to make saurkraut or a video. I’m sure a lot of people could use it hint hint
