Color Challenge - Saturday Indigo - Parthenocissus

The name derives from the Greek parthenos, "virgin", and kissos (Latinized as "cissus"), "ivy". The reason is variously given as the ability of these creepers to form seeds without pollination.

Leaf wooded liana length 15-30 m. Witki shoots of this species cling to the vertical surfaces and supports with the help of numerous small ears with sticky discs. The leaves are simple, large-toothed, three- or five-leaf, occasionally may be divided into a blade or, conversely, divided so deeply, that appear three separate leaves. The length of the leaves reaches 5-22 cm. At the beginning of development they are reddish-green, in the summer the upper side of the leaf becomes dark green and looks a little bald, the bottom becomes pale green, in the autumn the leaves become bright yellow and wine red.

Separate berries are 6-8 mm in width, dark blue. They are inedible.

Назва походить від грецького партеносу, "діва", і кісси (латинізовані як "цис"), "плюща". Різновиди пояснюються причиною здатності цих верстатів формувати насіння без запилення.

 Листопадна дерев'яниста ліана завдовжки 15-30 м. Виткі пагони цього виду чіпляються до вертикальних поверхонь й опор за допомогою численних невеликих вусиків із липкими дисками. Листки прості, великозубчасті, три- або п'ятилопатеві, зрідка можуть бути нерозділеними на лопаті або, навпаки, поділеними настільки глибоко, що здаються трьома окремими листками. Довжина листків сягає 5-22 см. На початку розвитку вони червонувато-зелені, влітку верхній бік листка набуває темно-зеленого кольору і виглядає трохи лискучим, нижній стає блідо-зеленим, восени листя набуває яскравих жовтого та винно-червоного кольорів. 

 Окремі ягоди завширшки 6-8 мм, темно-синього кольору. Вони неїстівні.
