Moth to a Flame - (Original poetry)

This piece is about every lost love, every lost opportunity, every one that is absent, every self-inflicted wound, everyone that isn't around even for a moment, every struggle, and every potential triumph

I woke up this morning
To a message from you
It wasn’t much more than
A “how do you do?”
But that’s all I require
At this point in time
It’s my blood transfusion
It’s another lifeline
I put on some coffee
To get my day started
And you’re still not here
My dearly departed
But I’m not alone
My thoughts are my companion
They rage on inside me
With reckless abandon
They must be expelled now
I must put pen to paper
Before they desert me
Dissolve into vapour
Oh I don’t need a verse
I don’t need a chorus
I’ll write about who’s against us
I’ll write about who’s for us
I’ll write on the rooftops
I’ll write on the train
I’ll write when there’s profit
Or there’s nothing to gain
I’ve gotta get moving
I wish my mind wasn’t hazy
I’d be a Goddamn superstar
If I wasn’t so lazy
I want to be loved and
I want to be hated
Because if they despise me
It means that I’ve made it
They would turn out en masse
Just to hear me reading
They’d all buy tickets
Just to watch me bleeding
Then I’ll gather my pages
And clean up the mess
If I’m still here tomorrow
It’s anyone’s guess
But I’ll keep writing tales
Of lost love and lost chances
And two miles of retreats
For each mile of advances
When I’m back home again
My thoughts drift back to you
Where will you spend the night tonight?
And what will you do?
And I can’t help but hear
The piercing screams of your silence
The sound crushes my soul
It’s so demoralizing
But I’ll soldier on
I wear my heart on my sleeve
So I’ll pack my bags and
Get ready to leave
I will move forward
Try to forget your name
But I’ll be drawn back in again
Like a moth to a flame
