Hello/Goodbye Alicia Fields (Original Poetry)

The telephone rang, it woke me from slumber
The voice said hello it’s Alicia Fields, I said you have the wrong number
She said well that’s a shame, you seem like a nice man
I said spend some time with me, and you might think again
For when it comes time to be counted, I’ll likely go missing
I’ll be hiding somewhere, drunk and reminiscing.

I won’t lay my hands on you, and I won’t fuck around
But I’ll take what we had, drive it into the ground
I’m paralyzed with fear and complacency
I’ll only realize it when you’ve already left me
So Alicia Fields, You should heed my warning
Don’t make yourself regret, calling my number this morning

Goodbye Alicia Fields, it’s been nice knowing you
I hope you’ve heard my message, I hope I’ve gotten through
You wouldn’t be the first one, and you won’t be the last
What seems to be going smoothly, can get rough really fast
I don’t do it on purpose, my intentions are pure
But is that the truth, even I can’t be sure

Then I hung up the phone, and I rested my head
I recounted over and over, the things I had said
Perhaps I was harsh, maybe I jumped the gun
For a battle not fought, is a battle not won
Did I just throw away, one final chance
One last invitation, to get up and dance

Well Alicia Fields, despite what you know
Maybe you’ll call me back, and we’ll give it go
I have your number, it might be me reaching out
Maybe I will, but I have my doubts
I often use words, like maybe and might
I should use the word WILL, but I lack the fight

The curtains are drawn, A sliver of light peeking in
It cuts through my malaise, it absolves me of sin
I shield my eyes, but I can’t look away
From the glorious light, and the promise of day
I would think it was fate if I believed in fate at all
Are you ready Alicia Fields, will you answer my call?
