5 Things to Remember This Memorial Day

in #anarchy9 years ago

My Facebook newsfeed is full of emotional pleas to remember the fallen and thanking the soldiers for their service to this great country.

Anyone who knows me won't be surprised that my perspective is a little bit different.

As night approaches, here are a few things to think about as we close the door on another Memorial Day:

Remember...

  1. Remember the innocent victims of military intervention. Men, women, and children are slaughtered daily by the agents of the United States government.
  2. Remember that all this death really has nothing to do with your freedom. Wars are fought for money, resources, and to keep a population afraid so those in charge can hold on to their power.
  3. Remember that all men are responsible for their own actions. "Following orders" does not justify anything. That excuse didn't work for the Nazis and it doesn't work for US soldiers.
  4. Remember that love of country is a meaningless sentiment. A country is nothing more than the territorial jurisdiction of a group of political overlords. There is nothing noble in dying for that.
  5. Remember that we can be better. As you consider the countless dead soldiers, remember what brought them to that state. Know that you can be so much more than a pawn in a violent deathmatch between competing powers who care nothing for you. Teach your children not to revere the military or honor their "service." Let's keep ourselves from making more soldiers.

I don't believe I'll ever see a world without war, but that won't stop me from trying to get us there by proclaiming the truth.
