The Taiwanese capital Taipei is working with the IOTA Foundation to use Tangle — iota's response to blockchain — in its citizen identification plans.
The head of the Department of Taiwan information technology Commission Wei-bin Li confirmed that Taipei will cooperate with IOTA and the Local biilabs startup to implement the Digital Citizen Card project. It is reported that this is one of many plans to use technologies using proof-of-concept, which the city has.

Taipei will use IOTA Tangle ID for several projects. Digital Citizen card will act as a system of protection against unauthorized access, protecting users from identity theft, according to CrowdFund Insider.

Lee writes:

"We will start with the related applications for Digital Citizen's Card that can be used as a platform. We also aim to improve authentication and integrity checks for data exchange in links between municipality-municipality and municipality-Institute (e.g. medical records)."
At the same time, the Commissioner also said that the city is open to other proposals that can help Taipei to continue developing its goals of turning the capital of Taiwan into a "smart city".

Lee also noted that while Taipei is testing a technology IOTA, the city still uses cryptocurrency of any type. Details of upcoming projects have not yet been discussed, but IOTA representatives were invited to establish an office in Taipei to facilitate future projects.

At the moment, the information technology Department, BiiLabs and the Foundation will continue to discuss project proposals for creating technologies using proof-of-concept (PoC). Now three groups have come together in a task force to work on the details of these projects.

Li concluded:"once the PoC is implemented, we will evaluate the results and build on them for further action."
