General Hiking Rules @senseicat
Wear hiking boots and be observant and careful where you place your feet. Loose rocks can accumulate on any trail, especially in mountains.
Drinking lots of water may keep you from having leg cramps. Many experienced hikers carry two quarts or more on longer day hikes.
Never cut across switchbacks, never drop or discard any items along the trail. This includes bottles, cans, cigarette butts, gum wrappers, etc.
Always leave word with others about your hiking route, you destination, and when you expect to return. This could be very important in case of trouble.
If you have not hiked recently, or if you are unfamiliar with mountain trails, start first with short hikes, two miles or less.
When you are ready to try a longer hike, for example, it is best to wear a small backpack in which to carry lunch, a spare jacket, and water.
