My busy morning

Today, it was a busy morning for me since I had to prepare alms for Buddhist monks at my temple. There were fourteen monks and other three helpers. I had to bring alms before 6.30 p.m. since most of the monks were heading to Piriven education. There were six little monks under the age of 12, because the temple's head monks recruit kids from remote areas to become monks.

It is not an easy task these days giving alms to about 15 monks, but it is our responsibility to care for monks in our temple. One of my friends from the neighboring house helped me to prepare meals.

I prepared two rices, white and red kakulu, fish curry, potato curry, sambal, and a veggie salad. In addition, I prepared noodles and purchased two loaves of bread and 100 string hoppers from the boutique. This time, I brought simply bananas for dessert because I didn't have time to make anything else.

My son, who works from home, had to go to his office early morning, therefore my husband, friend and I went to temple by a hired three wheel. First, we offered Buddha Puja to Lord Buddha and next offer alms to the monks. Our chief monks had gone to Matara with four of small monks to visit their parents. One of the monks said that once in two three years our chief monks accompanied them to their home town to visit their parents.

When I arrived at the temple, all of the monks had awoken and were sweeping the temple grounds and all buildings. Our chief monk instilled good values in all of the monks. In the afternoon, all monks go the Buddha shrine and chant Pirith, which is mandatory for all monks. They work together to maintain the temple grounds clean and tidy.

After talking with our monks, we returned to the house with a pleasant and positive mindset.
