Russia and Turkey Conflict In Syria By Archbishop Selena Scott
This latest string of airstrikes by the Russian Air Force comes just a day after the ceasefire talks between Moscow and Ankara collapsed.
The two countries are expected to meet once again in the next 24 hours in order to come to an agreement on the Idlib Governorate.
The United States believes that Russia and Turkey are “very close” to a more extensive conflict in Syria’s Idlib and hopes that they will be able to avoid it, Pentagon spokesperson Jonathan Hoffman told reporters on Wednesday.
“We are seeing the Russians and the Turks have come very close to having more extensive conflict in the area. We are hopeful they will find a solution to avoid that”, Hoffman said at a press briefing.
BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:30 P.M.) – The largest Russian military base in Syria has come under attack this evening, a local source told Al-Masdar News.
According to the source, the Russian military addressed a drone attack at the Hmeimim Airbase by deploying its air defense missiles to intercept the hostile aircraft.
Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, announced on Wednesday that his country will continue to support the legitimate government in Syria in its war against terrorism.
“We will not stop supporting the legitimate government in Syria, which is fighting a war against international terrorism,” Nevenzia said during the UN Security Council session.
Turkey requests US Patriot missile system to stop Russia in Idlib: report
BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:50 P.M.) – Turkey has reportedly asked the United States, a NATO ally, to deploy two Patriot missile systems along its southern border with Syria, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday.
Citing a Turkish official in Ankara, Bloomberg said the purpose of the Patriot missile systems would be to deter the Russian military’s strikes inside the Idlib Governorate, whereas many as a dozen Turkish soldiers were killed in the past two weeks.
